Telescope Development Projects

OK, this page is a bit tongue-in-cheek ...

LATTE concept Astronomers come up with some of the most sophisticated acronyms. To claim some of our own, the CNO has defined the following long-term telescope development projects, despite the lack of dedicated funding at this time:

LATTE ... Large Amateur Transit Telescope Experiment
in conception phase
VLAST ... Very Large Amateur Steerable Telescope
in conception phase
MA VLAST ... More Advanced Very Large Amateur Steerable Telescope
in conception phase

The common philosophy behind these projects is the achievement of large aperture by utilising small (standard) components. The aim is to develop a low-cost 1-metre-class telescope.
