IYA 2009

01 January 2009 - Solar Viewing

IYA2009

The beautiful weather on New Year´s Day allowed the participants of a private barbeque held on the CNO grounds to observe the Sun in white light. Unfortunately, the Sun showed a blank face: no sunspots were present. Nevertheless, safely looking at our day star always is fascinating, especially when it is the first time, like for our visitor in the image below.

The instrument used was the old 1970 60-mm refractor equipped with a self-constructed Baader Solar Film filter.

In the evening clouds came in from the west. However, after dark a convenient hole revealed the encounter of Venus and the Moon.
